Interview: Brood In Black (2021)

Kentucky is home to bourbon and brutality. The brutality comes in the form of the hate-fueled outfit, Brood in Black. Playing black metal with ethos fully entrenched in the underground, Sure, there's nothing particularly original about it, but I don't think the band gives much of a fuck anyway. Count Corinth gives some insight on the band plus expressing his distaste for trends and hipsters.

Hails. When and how did the vision of Brood In Black come to life and what is the ideology behind it?

Hails, brother. Let me start off by thanking you and your Zine, Death By Hammer, for taking the time to conduct this interview. The answer to this first question is going to be very lengthy, to tell this properly, so forgive me ahead of time..

Brood In Black originally started back in 2004 or 2005, as an idea, in which I was writing a lot of music on my own, heavily influenced by punk rock, ex. The Misfits, Samhain, G.G. Allin, DRI, but also Metal bands like Venom, old Slayer, Sodom, Hellhammer/Celtic Frost, and Bathory, etc. while also playing drums in a thrash-punk band called One Armed Wifebeater. Haha. Mind you, at that time, I did not have the internet or YouTube or any of that crap. I was going solely by what I had found on my own, through friends or record stores. I thought that taking the speed of DRI, crossing it with Venom, and basically a blueprint for Black Metal. This was the first blueprint for what would become Brood In Black.

In 2007, I finally purchased a Tascam Portastudio and started demoing these songs that I had amassed over this time, all by myself, as there was no one around in my area of South Central Kentucky who was playing Black Metal, the so called “scene” in those days was mainly a lot of what could be called Metalcore/Modern Death Metal/Technical Death Metal, so forming a band was out.

From 2007-2010, I recorded many demo tapes, to which were sent to many labels, many with no reply or a rejection letter/email. In 2010, after not getting this band off of the ground, out of frustration I threw the band/project into the crypt, not expecting to see it again..

Enter 2015, I decided to revisit some of the old demo tapes, and realized that there was something to this project, so I slowly started writing and recording again, and by late 2016/early 2017, I had written, and recorded the first Brood demo, “Arrival Of Death”, and with this release, started Blasfemas Records. So really, Brood In Black was finally realized in 2017..

The ideology behind Brood In Black, is basically war against society, the human race, and religions of the holy cross..all in the name of our infernal father, Satan..We are the nemesis of all..

What’s your opinion on the current state of Black Metal? Which active bands do you consider as torch-bearers of the genre?

My opinion on the current state of Black Metal is, of course, nothing is as good as the days of old. Our ancestors before us. The ones who helped shaped Black Metal. But with the invention of the internet and home recording software, it has inflated this entire genre to no end. I cannot entirely complain about the internet though-had it not been for the internet, no one would’ve EVER had known the name of Brood In Black! It took  having to get the internet and starting a label to get this blasphemy out! So there are a few good points to it, but they don’t outweigh the bad. So all in all, I support the real bands, the ones with the real passion in their music, the ones who are in league with Satan, and piss on the trend hopping bands who were playing Metalcore last week, and “atmospheric Black Metal” (without Satanic or occult tendencies) this week! Fuck you die!!

Newer bands of note: I’m going for within the last 5-10 years..Perverted Ceremony, Moenen Of Xezbeth, Walpurgia, Cult Of Eibon, Black Blood Invocation, Gates Of Sinn, Necromantic Worship (rip), Prophets Of Doom, Crurifragium, Abysmal Lord, Forbidden Temple, Mefitic, Croc Noir, Tomb, Belshazar, Belzazel, too many to mention..
Hails to all of these bands..

What do you think of that abominable garbage that came out recently called Lords of Chaos?

I unfortunately caved in to my curiosity, after vowing to never subject myself to this abomination..And I wanted to gouge my eyes and ears out of my skull with an ice pick. Pure shit that belongs in a sewer with all the other shit.

What are some of your biggest influences (both musically and lyrically)?

My biggest influences would have to be our Infernal Father, first and most of all, and also the Occult, musically/lyrically for Brood In Black- First and foremost, Venom, Hellhammer, Celtic Frost, Bathory, Profanatica, VON, Demoncy, Judas Iscariot, Black Witchery(rip Tregenda), Black Funeral, Azazel, Archgoat, Beherit, Graven, Mortuary Drape, Mystifier, I’d be a liar to say that I didn’t buy the essential Darkthrone/Burzum albums, The Black, there are just too many to list..but all of these have influenced me in some shape or form..

Musically, do you have any aspirations to sound “original”?

As far as being original in Black Metal is concerned, that is nearly impossible to accomplish, without overreaching the bounds, and coming off as pretentious, and boring. For me, when I am listening to Black Metal, I don’t listen for originality. I listen for the feeling that the music puts off. I am not concerned about proficiency, or of the production. If the band is playing atmospheric BM for 8 minutes straight, I am bored by the 3rd minute. If a band is blasting Black/Death for 3 minutes, and screaming about the throne of Satan, most times, the feeling comes through. Like I imagine the feeling of someone from the late 70’s/early 80’s, hearing fucking Venom back then for the first time, you know that they felt it! They truly felt the power of Satan!! Back then, that was an original idea, not so much anymore. But rock and roll is the Devil’s music, and we are here to do his bidding..at whatever cost. Doesn’t matter how original you are, in my eyes anyways. Brood In Black is far from inventing the wheel in Black Metal, but I believe that those who listen with the right ears, will get that feeling in their hearts, that they are also in league with Satanas.

Can you tell us little bit about your solo project called RTNG JHVH and how it differs from BROOD IN BLACK?

RTNGJHVH (pronounced rotting Jehovah) is a one man War Metal project that I started under a different pseudonym, Black Daemon Of Unholy Winds. Influenced by Blasphemy, Archgoat, Beherit, Proclamation, Sarcofago, Black Witchery, Conqueror, Revenge, etc. War Metal against the false rotting savior! The first demo, “ROTTING JEHOVAH” cassette was recorded during winter/spring of 2020 and released last August on Blasfemas Records, and was repressed as part of a split w/PROGOAT, titled “BESTIAL WAR ATTACK UPON THE CROSS”, on Propagator Propaganda Records out of Germany, CD Ltd. to 30 copies
Copies of both are still available to this date, on both labels..

The differences—Brood In Black is closer sound wise to Black Metal than Black/Death/War Metal, whereas, RTNGJHVH is closer to Bestial Black/Death/War Metal than it is to Black Metal. They both have their places and their purposes, both ultimately at war against everything “holy”..

You also have a small underground label called BLASFEMAS RECORDS that specializes in tape format. When was it conceived and what’s the idea behind it?

Blasfemas Records was conceived in late 2016/early 2017, with the first Brood In Black cassette Arrival Of Death. Blasfemas Records was born out of necessity, to be able to release Brood In Black cassettes, as this was a problem with the early vision of the band, from 2007-2010. No one wanted to release these demos at all, so to remedy the problem the second time around, I started Blasfemas Records. Since 2017, we have put out several other bands demos (Christrape, Unholy Christ, Cruel Spirit, ARRA,etc) and also, we have 15 releases to date. And we are on the verge of adding a few more to the roster. We are a DIY label, draw/copy/cut/paste/dub/. The first half of our releases were all mainly hand written and hand drawn, though we have gradually graduated to typing/printing liner notes.

What merchandise do you currently have available?

We currently only have cassettes/digital files for sale; all 15 releases are available in digital download, though a select amount of our cassette releases are currently in stock. Our Bandcamp page has all of our releases streaming/for sale. We hope to expand our merchandise in the future. Our latest idea has been of doing some exclusive runs of CD-R’s of our sold-out stock.

10 albums you can’t live without.

10 albums I can’t live without..
Hellhammer “Satanic Rites”
and “Apocalyptic Raids”
Celtic Frost “Morbid Tales”, “To Mega Therion”
Venom “Welcome To Hell”, “Black Metal”
First 4 Bathory albums.
That is all that you need!!

What do you regard as some of the most disgusting trends in metal today? Any pet-peeves?

I’d have to say some of the most disgusting trends in Black Metal today, on a musical level, which harkens back to bands overstriving for originality, is the so called “post BM” bullshit, it all sounds the same (ripping off Burzum riffs, or Avant-garde/emo bullshit)and even looks the same, ( the visual aspect is that the bands usually all look like they play indie rock, no corpsepaint/spikes/etc, just tattoos/nazi youth haircuts/beards; they look as they were playing indie rock last week, and decided that Burzum has some cool riffs but fuck that Nazi..hahaha) these bands totally try to exclude Satan, or Satanic ideas, because they think it’s been over done. Black Metal is about Satan, for Satan and is SATAN!! It’s funny, because they are all fools-they do not realize that ultimately, rock n’ roll/ Metal is the Devil’s music, and they are still serving Him, whether they think they are or not, and whether they like it or not!! They all can try to deny it- but it’s no use..It’s basically Emo/Metalcore for The Dark Lord..Hahaha!! This is just my opinion, if it’s not Satanic in some kind of way, it doesn’t need to be called “Black Metal”..

Another trend is using the word “Blackened” in a band’s description of their sound. Aaarrrgghhh…This should be self-explanatory, I need not have to explain..

One-man Atmospheric bands are a dime a dozen, with Internet and fucking recording software, also Dark/Ambient stuff has also been overdone all to hell. I stand with my last comment in the first section above…

Another trend, is the price gouging of vinyl releases. I don’t claim to be some big “collector” of vinyl, especially of the BM persuasion. I actually probably don’t own vinyl as much as the next person who listens to Black Metal, it is insane what some of the older releases bring on Discogs, EBay, etc. It really is a racket. Even with some of today’s releases, the desperate collectors are going to spend that money, to get that status symbol, to post on all of their social media accounts. And the labels are raking in the cash while they can, because today’s vinyl is going to be tomorrow’s download card. It’s all one big work, but who suffers? The ones who passionately listen to BM without the status symbols, the ones who can’t afford it, etc. Like all things that are considered “cool”, they unfortunately get turned in a trend. And vinyl collectors are no better than sports card collectors, unfortunately. Buy all the vinyl, only to look at it and never listen to it. Total neglect of these pieces of blasphemy. Music is made to be heard! If you were to ask me, I’ll buy a dubbed demo cassette for 10 bucks over an original press of an album that costs over $30 bucks and up any day!

I am sure there are other things about this genre that aggravate me and others, but at this time, I will conclude this answer..

Thanks a lot for your time, brother! The last unholy words are yours.

Thanks very much again for conducting this interview with me, for Brood In Black..I am truly honored.. At this time, I would like to send my gratitude to all worshippers of the cult of Brood In Black, and of Blasfemas Records and our other bands. Hail!!!

Also, Infernal Hails to all of our band comrades all over the world…

Hail Satan!!

Album review: Sárnes – None More Black (2019)

Sárnes – None More Black

Vermont / USA

Born For Burning Productions

Sárnes is a duo hailing from Vermont/USA playing raw black metal, featuring a member from Shitangel (previously reviewed here) on vocals/guitars. “None More Black” is their debut album and was released by Born For Burning Productions

The 10 tracks that make up “None More Black” are comprised of utterly harsh vocals, cold riffs and mediocre drum beats befitting of the music. It’s not terribly original per se, but conjured with such a level of unwavering passion that it makes terms like “originality” seem redundant. The album is encumbered with everything fans of true black metal will enjoy. There’s a nice deal of variety throughout, since no track on this release sounds quite like the other, all the while maintaining a misanthropic mood. Some may find the production a bit thin, but for me it’s perfect for the style they play – raw, yet powerful in the entire mix. The whole album is shrouded in a verily cold, unfriendly atmosphere, which makes it a joy to listen to. It doesn’t pander to any sissy trends and it doesn’t care if you like it or not. The only thing it cares about is seeing the human race six-feet under.

Overall, this album probably won’t get any accolades for being terribly ground-breaking, nor will it be revered as modern classic; however, it does get props for being a thoroughly enjoyable and filthy slap of raw black metal madness. (HT)

Demo review: Brood In Black - Black Unholy Mass (2021)

Brood In Black – Black Unholy Mass

Kentucky, USA

Blasfemas Records

Brood In Black hail from from the city of Lancaster (there’s another Lancaster in England, but the weather looks a bit crappy there) situated in Kentucky, USA, and the aptly titled “Black Unholy Mass” is their latest offering of pure unadulterated black metal darkness.

Brood In Black are one of those bands that’s 100% loyal to the spirit of old-school black metal. They evoke an atmosphere that takes us back to the first and second wave of black metal with a sound reminiscent of bands like Beherit, Countess, Bathory, etc. That’s not to say that Brood In Black is some boring, uninspired clone of the aforementioned bands; they do their thing well and I happen to enjoy this kind of no-frills, straight-forward black metal, and in the case of Brood In Black, they execute their craft with absolute zeal and fervour. The overall length of "Black Unholy Mass” exceeds the 30 minute mark, which is quite a satisfying duration for a demo.

Performance-wise, the songs are pretty simple and by no means technical, but that’s also one of the band’s strong points. The vocals are appropriately raw, evil, and full of acrimony which gives the music a really unsettling feel. Everything goes together decidedly well, whether it’s the inventive drum fills, the skull-grating buzzsaw riffs, or the venom-spitting vocals.

If you think words like “raw” and “simplistic” are a warning flag for “unprofessional”, then avoid this at all costs – especially if you’re a hipster who think it’s cool to listen to black metal after watching the abominable Lords Of Chaos film. This is about as austere, bleak, bitter and unoriginal as any black metal you can find, but that’s the fucking beauty of it. There’s absolutely no compromise for trends. (HT)

Demo review: Supayniyux - Aniquilacion de Cristo (2021 Re-release)

Supayniyux - Aniquilacion de Cristo

Ecuador / Switzerland

From Deepest Records

Supayniyux is an Ecuadorian/Swiss black metal band and “Aniquilacion de Cristo” is their demo from 2014 recently re-released on CD format by From Deepest Records.

The music on this demo unfolds over a duration of 27 minutes spanning 5 tracks of over-the-top aural violence. Imagine a mix between bands like Nyogthaeblisz, Svartsyn and Sarcofago – that’s more or less what Supayniyux sounds like. The vocals are ultra abrasive, agonized screams drenched in a crescendo of hellish noise. A barrage of hyper-charged riffs bombard the listener at every turn, constructed of basic chord progressions and melodic sensibilities that mesh well with the all-out chaos. The sound on this demo is undoubtedly raw, but not so much to the point where it detracts from the overall quality of the songs, since one is able to follow the riffs and drums, regardless of the heavy layer of distortion that encompass this demo. This whole release embodies a sense of urgency and rage, which is perfectly captured in its apocalyptic fury.

Favourite tracks:

Era de Semen y Sangre

Muriendo En El Horizonte

Overall, this is raw and chaotic black metal done right and a killer demo to boot. Supayniyux is pure black metal madness for black metal fans pure. Recommended! (HT)

Interview: Angelgoat (2021)

The notorious Black Metal horde ANGELGOAT have been making waves in the underground ever since their inception in 2001. The following interview was conducted with Unholy Carnager - the mastermind behind the cult.

Infernal hails! When you first formed the band, what kind of vision did you have in mind, and has it changed much over the years? What does Black Metal mean to you?

Hails! After the culmination of cognition, the vision of Angelgoat came to physical form in 2001. Since then, the changes were minimal, mostly some things were just upgraded, keeping the main form. I don't see that as something positive if the music or the concept keeps changing. In that case, I would make a new band, and when it's about Angelgoat, fans will always know what to expect: minimalistic, primitive and raw old-school Black Metal, with the sound that permeates from the late '80s / early '90s.

Besides Angelgoat, there were a few more visions, like playing melodic Black Metal, or even a Death/Doom Metal project, but somehow that never manifested, and probably never will...

Can you give us some information about the current line-up? If I'm not mistaken, “U Slavu Satane”(In Glory of Satan) was the last release to feature other members' input?

I always had a high criterion when it's about the individuals for the band. Only Devil worshiping musicians are acceptable and appropriate to share and contribute this vision. Due to the constant deficit of adequate members, I was mostly doing everything by myself. One of the rare, and only people besides me, was Occultum Malleus. The names of the new Devil worshiping musicians of the new line-up will be revealed soon. With the new release, of corpse.

How do you go about playing all the instruments and putting everything together? Is it a difficult process? How long have you been playing each instrument?

It all began in the late '90s, and it might come as a surprise, but my first instrument was a keyboard. Soon after that, I started playing the guitar, bass, and drums. But from the very start, my main focus was on vocals. “Vatropoklonstvo” (Fire Worship) and “Ustoličenje” (Enthronement) are the first songs I ever made. When I compose songs, I do it in a relaxed state, without deadlines and pressure. For my own pleasure, primarily. Playing guitar, writing down the riffs, playing, listening and doing the arrangements, riff by riff, until the song is done. A Guitar Pro is pretty handy thing, for composing and saving the music from oblivion. Many musicians use it...

It's quite obvious that you prefer the real thing when it comes to drums, hence you chose to play them yourself on your last two albums. I must also say that you pull it off rather well, as I enjoy hearing you smash the kit into oblivion on your albums. Is it an instrument you enjoy playing? And What do you think of programmed drums?

Yeah, blastbeats are my thing, haha. Also I prefer the “old blastbeat”, obviously. My main problem has always been the lack of rehearsal place for drums. Which is noticeable on the last 2 albums, although I'm hoping for better circumstances on the next recording... As I've already mentioned, my main occupation & pleasure is screaming, also playing the bass guitar, and for the last few years, destroying the drum kit for sure. Programmed drums can be OK. In my case, I use them in Guitar Pro as midi paths for my tracks, but I always value real drums, even sloppy, instead of programmed drums...

How would you describe the musical progress between each album/release? Are you happy with the results of your latest album, “The Lucifer Within”? What does it represent lyrically and what are some of your favourite tracks? It's actually one of my favourite black metal albums of the year.

The progress between all the albums/releases can be taken from some aspect, but in a way, they are all the same to me. There's a slight difference and progress in production and sound on each release, but generally not much has changed and that was the goal. Every recording won't be the same, different studio, different drum set, etc., but basically it's the Angelgoat sound.

Yeah, I'm generally satisfied with the results. As usual, something remains unfinished, but there's always a next recording. Anyway, there's a special satisfaction and a feeling when it's known that it's finally recorded 10 years after the material is even made for that album. The lyrics even longer... And when it's about the lyrics, the lyric of the “The Lucifer Within” track speaks of something inner, that inner belief, the thing I carry in my inner-self and what is the essence of me. The rest of the lyrics are of similar thematics: Satanism, occultism, Goat worship, anti-christianity, blasphemy, desecration, perversion, death... I I think “The Lucifer Within” track have the strongest riffs, it's a self-titled track for a reason. One of my favorite tracks from the album, as it represents Angelgoat's style in it's best light (darkness). It's the same with the self-titled track from the U Slave Satane” album. “The Night of Ritual Debauchery” has a special vibe and atmosphere. I'm also very pleased with the intro, and aside from the tracks I've already mentioned, the tracks that could also be singled out a bit more are “Supreme Satanic Will” or ”Glory to the Horns”... Some tracks are maybe more dear to me than the others from the album, but all the tracks are very special to me. The track which is a bit different, is the ”Black Goat Semen”, where my brother Nekro of Goat Terrorism made a great contribution to the album with his guest appearance. Cool, I'm really glad to hear that...

How do you manage to conjure such an heavy and evil guitar tone?

It was a real revelation when I tried the Metal Zone MT2 for the first time many years ago. That was it and I'm still using it more then 20 years later. The slight difference between the sound on the albums are the different guitars. Ibanez on 1st, Jackson on 2nd, and B.C.Rich on the third album. Some minimal adjustments in mastering and that's it. The sound of Angelgoat that will be heard on all future releases.

Tell us a bit about your vocal approach. Do you practice regularly? What's some of your biggest inspirations?

Only the vocals on “U Slavu Satane” album were recorded after rehearsing it with a full line-up. And that recording session was basically just me screaming for about half an hour... All the things are done in a sort of “punkish” style, on “1,2,3 and record”. All other recording sessions are done the same way, but just without the rehearsing. Similar with recording the instruments... Which is not OK, for sure, but that's the way it was. My vocals reached maximum before I even started recording anything. But, I was forcing it and I've destroy it years before the first recording. No particular influence nor inspiration...

Tell us something about where you grew up and what the metal scene was like in your area.

Vrbas is a small town, former industrial center, about 25000 people, really nothing special. And the metal scene was always pretty weak. Besides Angelgoat, there was one more Black/Death/Trash Metal band, but just for a short period existed, with the one rehearsal demo. There was one good Trash/Speed Metal band called Toxic Trace, split up some time ago, and now there's just one more active similar genre band called Haste...

Has the NATO bombing of Serbia had any impact on the nature of your music or influenced you as a person?

No, no, I would never use the lyrics of such nature. There's no place for politics in music, by my opinion, but even generally I do not remember that there were some Metal bands with such lyrical thematic. Although some non-metal bands, yes. In general, people in Serbia are embittered cause such act, bombing and destroying, and the certain hate to USA definitely exists. I'm not indifferent on such idiotic behaviour, but it had no influence on me...

Musically, what are some of your biggest influences? Are you influenced by any Serbian bands?

A big influence is Beherit, of corpse. The band I respect the most. There are more bands that had an influence on me, bands like Mayhem, Darkthrone or Marduk (some certain periods/albums only) but I never wanted to have any sound influence by any band under my work. Maybe Angelgoat have a similar sound to some of the aforementioned bands, but there was never such an intention, just simply creating the music I worship. No influence by the band, only by the Devil, hah!

When it's about the Serbian scene and bands... Maybe I could mention Heller, Serbian Speed/Trash Metal band from the 80s. Often I use one comparison when I speak of Heller – What's Sodom for Germany, that's Heller for Serbia.

I have noticed a trend among the online community of metalhead sheep to hate on certain cult bands with the intention of impressing their peers. It's contradictory in how some of these people can apparently listen to bands that were influenced by the bands they bash. It makes no sense at all. Your thoughts?

Like you said it well – a sheep, as everywhere else, there's always some smart guy, spoiling and trolling. Not even worth the attention, but let's say few words about them, when we are already speak of them. I guess it's a wrong way to elevate themselves in society, so they strive for trolling. A lot of cult bands that are literally the firms today, and all they do, they do for the money. It's a business now, and it's not the same bands from the beginning. Without the same passion, feeling, the essence,... nothing is the same. Anyway, it's a reason for someone to take the opportunity and express his “opinion”. Whatever that opinion may be. But again, such persons should not be given attention.

Tell us a little a bit about how you perceive Satanism. Do you believe in Satan as an actual deity or is it more of a personal symbol that reflects your darker side? Do you approach it as a religion? What brought you to this path?

After many years of practice of Satanism, in many forms, the Occultism in general, exploring, discovering and learning, the certain attitudes about this matter are built. I believe in Satan, with those personal views of mine, but this is a topic which I don't tell much about.

As concern of religion... Satanism can be considered as sort of religion, of corpse, but definitely not as one of the religions today. Generally it's all based on smaller cults, or an individual practitioner which is often the case... My case, for instance.

Strange are the ways of the god” some says, but even stranger are the ways of Lord Satan who brought me to this path...

What are 10 albums you can't live without?

I'll mention some of my favourite albums and releases in general. Beherit – “Drowning Down the Moon”, “Dawn of Satan's Millennium” EP, Archgoat - “Whore of Bethlehem”, although I worship more the earlier works, more dirtier, like the “Jesus Spawn” demo, or “Angelcunt” EP, or unreleased EP “Hymns To Darkness”. But the sound on “Whore of Bethlehem” is just awesome. Bestial Raids - “Prime Evil Damnation”, but all releases are really great, a great band. Beastcraft - “Into the Burning Pit of Hell”, the sound is amazing, but I also worship 2 previous demos maybe even more. Mayhem – “Deathcrush” demo, earlier works, also live albums like “Live in Leipzig” or “Mediolanum Capta Est” remained into remembrance. Darkthrone – “Under a Funeral Moon”, but I was into later albums quite much, like “Ravishing Grimness” or “Sardonic Wrath”, and I've stopped listening the band after that album... Marduk - “Those of the Unlight”, special feeling when this album is about, although I prefer more period with Legion. Astaroth - “Sklavengott”, but also the EP “Christenfeind”. Heller – “Heller”, the best Serbian Speed/Trash Metal album ever, and as the last, an album that left a special impression on me, and that is “Some Wounds Bleed Forever” from the Stone to Flesh. Demos are recommended as well...

What is your stance towards social media? Many people seem to take full advantage of these platforms to promote their bands to the fullest and some become overnight rockstars. I have noticed though that you mostly prefer to stay out of the spotlight, which is respectable.

I find myself communicative and I like to chat and hang out, I'm active on some Metal forums, but when it's about social media like Facebook or similar, I would rather use my time better. When it's about the band, it's enough to have one official web presentation (a must have today), which will also be as prevention of the circulation of disinformation and all kind of crap on the internet. Who wants to find me or Angelgoat on the internet, he will find.

If I recall correctly, you attained a serious injury some years ago (I think you fell or something). Could you please specify exactly what happened and how long it took you to recover?

Yes, it was almost 11 years ago by now, and some consequences are still present, which causes health problems for me from time to time. It was about 98% recovery, but still, it was a fall from 10 meters height. Not much to tell, too much beer and shitty luck. Big price I had to pay, took me quite some time to recover and return to normal life. But that's the past now. The worship of the Angelgoat continues.

I appreciate the black and white covers of your albums, and I'm glad you didn't opt for colourful artworks like so many modern black metal bands seem to do. How important is the visual aspect and why do prefer the more simplistic approach?

The simplistic approach to the covers is a logical and natural choice for this kind of music. (And also by my taste, of corpse.) The minimalism is something that permeates my life and is something that can be heard in the music I make. My approach to composing riffs is straight-forward. It's the same with the covers, simple essence and that's it. The visual aspect is also very important and definitely it should be some ultimate photo/image for the cover. The album cover should speak for the release.

Your thoughts on the following:

Monotheism - Belief in one god, but from different points of view. Many names, but basically it's the same. From the christian side or from the other, Satanic side. Fuck god - hail Satan!

US Politics - US politics are some of the most idiotic for sure. Like most politics, of course, but these idiots are definitely the worst. Waste of time and words on this topic...

Anton LaVey - Anton LaVay was smart (Aquarius ascendant) and with the energy of Ram, he was achieving his goals. But many Satanists don't see his philosophy/religion as Satanism. Neither I had a positive opinion about him and his work, and also don't find it as Satanism, but after studying a bit deeper, he had a few valid points in regards to other things. There's a certain respect, but there's a lot of other minds I would rather study.

Nergal/Behemoth - Ok, few words and opinion about Nergal of Behemoth. As a Gemini, I see him as person variable nature and a versatile person. Great guitarist, very smart, with some his views I agree, with some I’m not... I respect him cause his Crowleyanity...

What are some of your favorite albums from the last 10 years? Do you have any favorites from 2020 so far?

Some titles really worth mentioning, that I can think of right now... Perverted Ceremony - “Sabbat of Behezaël”, Doombringer - “The Grand Sabbath”, but demos and EP are also definitely worth checking out, 13th Moon - “Abhorrence of Light”, with 2 previous demos...

From 2020., "Death Clan OD" from Serpent Noir, in which I've enjoyed pretty much.

As I understand it, you recently moved to Belgrade. So far, how's experience with the metal scene and people there? Is it a nice city to live in? Are there any like-minded manijaks with a penchant for Satan and morbid Black/Death?

Yeah, the relocation was necessary to improved the functioning of the band and a greater worship of the Goat! Serbia is a small country, and sadly only 2-3 towns actually lives. No life in small towns. For about 20 years I was visiting the Belgrade, gigs and friends, and I already had some contacts there, the adequate individuals and option now to gather the horde for Angelgoat, so that was the best solution. Also when it's about the question of job – more options. But every start is hard, so maybe next release will took some time, but expect it for sure 666%!

I could keep going, but I'll stop here for the sake of everyone's well being :) Few people have the patience to read a 60 question interview. Can you imagine that? Well, I hope you had a good time with these questions. Tell us about your future plans and where all the maniacs can get hold of your merchandise and music. Slava Angelgoat!

Hahah, you are definitely right there, no one likes the long interviews... Except the few maniacs as you say. Yeah, it was a cool and really nice chat with you, and thanks for the great support. Keep checking the updates on official website, some great news coming up soon! Slava Satan! Slava Angelgoat!

INTERVIEW: SATANS CARRION (2021)

The following interview was done with L. Amodi from USBM band, SATANS CARRION.

Ave! Amidst all this global turmoil and uncertainty, how do you find yourself at the moment? Do you think things will get worse before they get better, or are we heading straight for the abyss? Furthermore, were there any albums from 2020 that made an impression on you?

Hails! In all of this kaos that's been going on globally, I've actually found myself doing rather well during this whole "pandemic" aside from catching Covid myself. (Which didn't stop me from doing anything.) So much for it being "deadly"... Hard to say, but the US really seems to head straight into that abyss itself. As for albums in 2020: well, I haven't had the time to check out most 2020 releases; unless I was told by a few people like Alexandros from Macabre Omen telling me in person during my travels to the UK in early 2020 about his new release coming out called "Anamneses."

Can you tell me how Satans Carrion came into being and what the band represents musically and lyrically?

Satans Carrion was kaos manifested in the early years of 2011 from within Mortis Circulus. Musically and lyrically represents the filth, the kaos, the hatred and his return in which I spilled my guts out on every recording and still continue to do so. The band started as a solo-project to the point where I wanted to take things further. Funeral Curse from Vatican and ex-Warmoon asked to join as a drummer for Satans Carrion back in late 2013, but things didn't really work out, so I recruited Belhor from ex-Baalzabub on drums for that rehearsal release.

Can you give us a background on your discography and each releases' respected format?

As far as the discography go, everything was all-self released on tape and CDr.
The releases so far including re-releases:

Demo I -2012 & re-release - 2015

Split with Malibuas - In Maleficarum Scriptor Cantus - 2014

Rehearsal MMXVII -2017

How and when did you first get into Black Metal? What is it about the genre that resonates with you enough to inspire you to compose your own music?

You know, I have been asked this many times over the years and considering that Black Metal was almost non-existent in my city at the time when I first got into the genre. Vatican, Warmoon, and Nosvrolok were the only ones I knew at the time growing up here. Anyway, I was actually introduced to Black Metal when I was 15 by an old friend and his wife who used to briefly live around here. He used to show me many old flyers, letters, demos, etc. What resonated with me was that it was real then compared to the pussification of what's been going on in today's scene but then again who am I to say since I never lived in that era, but only learned how it should be. Every now and then I come across people who do carry that spirit. To me, Black Metal was always more than just music.

Which bands influenced the sound of Satans Carrion? Also, if I'm not mistaken, your moniker was inspired by a Mutiilation title? Are you abig fan of their music, including the Les Legions Noires?

Not sure, I usually compose as I go every time I record. I've always heard many people compare Satans Carrion to several bands over the years. Indeed, as in the lyrics reads "I'm a puppet of Satan". Yes, I have listened to music from Les Legions Noire and have briefly spoken with Vordb Na r.iidr of Belketre back in late 2015, but to me especially when writing music in Satans Carrion, it's more then just music which I've already explained in the last question.

Can you tell us a bit about the recording circumstances regarding your debut demo from 2012? What memories do you harbour from that period?

I clearly remember that time during the recording of the first demo and the start of the band, truly fucked up times! The drugs, the crimes, the madness that went on.. I'm more surprised I'm still here because at the time I was truly hellbent on ending it all! In regards to the recording, everything was done by myself in 2011, including the drum machine which was the first devil's mark on this hellish journey. I only had a very limited release at the time due to the problems that was going on for me and even short on money. Hell, I even had to steal some blank tapes in the past haha. Later, I decided to properly self re-release the first demo in early 2015.

Satans Carrion is quite an unknown act. Do you have any aspirations to evolve this project to a more “illustrious” status or are you content with how things are? Furthermore, what's your opinion on musicians from Black Metal bands that inhabit a kind of rockstar temperament?

Indeed, Satans Carrion has been an unknown act for quite some time now and after 5 years of silence, many thoughts and questions arose during that time. I have decided to bring Satans Carrion out from the shadows and into the unholy light to spit at those who betrayed its true essence. At the moment, I'm unsure about "live shows" as finding the right people around here can be a challenge. I truly despise those with a "Rockstar attitude" within Black Metal. Especially the newcomers who secretly seek fame which I've seen a lot over the years but almost always end up in flames. Is there that "black flame" that continues to burn within them anymore? Some still do.

What can you tell us about your latest release, “Rehearsal MMXVII,”and the mood you tried to capture on these recordings?

The rehearsal was recorded in early 2015 with a good friend/drummer, Belhor from Baalazbub, and at the time there where many frustrations and anger when it came down to recording & sound. Initially, this rehearsal was meant to be a mini-album release in 2016, but personal problems occurred at the time which postponed the release for later 2021, thus having Satans Carrion enter a small 5 year break for the time being in which I've decided to release what was captured in that live rehearsal in 2017. Two of the three rehearsal tracks on that release will feature on the new mini-album end of the year.

Can you please elaborate on the theme behind the song “Ego Sum Papa” and what inspired it? There's a sample in this track about a new pope being elected. Where's it taken from? Also, what's your opinion about the Pope and the Vatican? Are they really as “holy” as they portray themselves to be?

There have been many talks in history about the Devil taking seat within the Vatican, so I took a recorded sample of a pope being elected some years ago as a mockery to the holy faith with the Devil being elected. I don't know, I've set foot there earlier in 2020 as a black shadow within the holy see. The mass was canceled during that time due to Covid barely hitting Italy ( mostly up north ) even before hitting the rest of the world. I guess virus fear is stronger than faith.

What's 10 albums you can't live without?

Well, I have way more than 10 albums I can't live without haha but I'll list a few...

1. Hell Militia - Canonisation on the Foul Spirit / Last Station On The Road To Death
2. Uranium 235 - Total Extermination
3. Mysticum - In The Streams Of Inferno
4. Sepultura - Bestial Devastation
5. Zyklon-B - Blood Must be Shed
6. Incursus - Eternal Funeral Trance
7. Darkthrone - Soulside Journey to Panzerfaust
8. Sodom - Witching Metal / In the Sign of Evil
9. Mayhem - De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas
10. Sadistic Intent - Resurrection

Lastly, how do you foresee the future of Satans Carrion? The last blasphemous words are yours.

At the moment, things are slowly returning. Rehearsing tracks again and Darkest Hails to Dirk Verbeuren who agreed to help with session drums for the up-coming mini-album which should be released at the end of 2021. Despite all the struggles, the hospital visits, and even the few times I came close to death over the years...Satans Carrion still returns! This is only the beginning of the end, Halle-fucking-lujah, mother fuckers.

Split review: Blood Omen / Slege – Bathing In The Blood Of The Meek (2020)

Blood Omen / Slege – Bathing In The Blood Of The Meek

USA

Nihilistic Noise Propaganda

"Bathing In The Blood Of The Meek” is a black metal split between Blood Omen and Slege, both of whom hail from California. These bands are amply uncompromising in their craft and represent the heart and soul of the genre.

Blood Omen starts the split, offering 2 tracks of fierce and majestic Black Metal. This is the band's third release, so they already had some time to work on their music, hence the quality of the material. “Bloodsworn Legacy” is an epic 8-minute hymn featuring one of the best solos in a black metal song I've heard in a while. The blood-curdling vocals, along with their ability to write sick riffs, definitely makes them a noteworthy prospect. Blood Omen is the real deal and after hearing their side of the split, I've decided to check out the rest of their discography.

Slege's take on the genre is slightly different, although they embody the same murderous spirit. The atmosphere they evoke is powerful and reminds me of old Gorgoroth. The effects on the vocals are very well done and gives the music a very distinctive feel. “Their Heads On The Spikes Of Our Victory” is an absolute killer tune backed by some truly epic riffs and an amazing vocal performance full of emotion.

All in all, both bands are on the same page in terms of song-writing quality and show a natural capacity for depth; therefore, I cannot recommend this release enough. This is a great split.(HT)
